| | FREE RESOURCES "Running a Museum: A Practical Handbook" UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), has produced a series of electronic publications on the subject of museum management in conjunction with ICOM (International Council of Museums), with the goal of contributing to develop the capacity of museum professionals in developing countries. It includes two publications: the first, "Running a Museum: A Practical Handbook", is intended to be as useful to professionals as it is to museology students; the second, "Running a Museum: A Trainer's Manual", is written for trainers and teachers. We consider the latter to be a good resource, since the publications contain and develop themes fundamental to museum development, from human resource management to the exhibition of the holdings. Although available in some other languages, the handbooks are not available in Spanish. Movable Heritage Outreach Programme UNESCO has created the Movable Heritage Outreach Programme to inform museum visitors, owners of collections, and the concerned public of the value and significance of movable cultural objects. It also seeks to increase awareness of the wider public on the importance of their contribution to the appropriate management of museum collections. Within this framework, it is producing a series of electronic guides where such aspects as conservation, risk management, handling, documentation, and heritage awareness are addressed. The publications utilize vignettes accompanied by bilingual texts in English/French or French/Arabic. Currently, two guides have been produced: "Security at museums", and "Handling and care of manuscripts". Go to the guide download page (PDF format)
